Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find answers to common questions about the workout, reserving classes, and buying memberships. Contact us if you still can't find what you're looking for.

The Workout

Will I get hit?

Classes are no-contact, so no, you won’t get hit.

How will boxing change my body? When will I see results?

Boxing is a full-body workout that can completely transform your body. The combination of cardio and strength training will help you shred fat, build lean muscle mass, reduce stress, and build confidence. Clients report feeling better after just one class and seeing changes in their body after just a few weeks.

Do I need experience to take a class?

No! Zero experience is required to take a class. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve put on the gloves before, you’ll be coached from start to finish. First-timers are always cared for in every class—we won’t leave you hanging!

I haven’t worked out in a while. What should I expect?

You don’t need to be in shape to start boxing. We welcome first-timers of all fitness levels (including non-existent). Coaches are equipped to offer modifications for all exercises, and you can take breaks as needed during class.

If you haven’t worked out in a while, we recommend making our class your only workout for the day. Be sure to hydrate well the day before and day of and eat a light snack 2-3 hours before class starts.

Learn more about what to expect for your first class.

Will I actually learn boxing technique?

Absolutely! You’ll learn punches, self-defense, and how to hit the bag. During class your coach will make sure you’re completing each move with proper form and answer any questions you may have.

How often should I take class?

For best results, 3-4 classes per week will do the trick. Those with more aggressive goals may prefer to attend more frequently.

I noticed you have a boxing ring. Can I spar?

Due to social distancing requirements, we're not currently offering sparring in classes or private training sessions.

How do I wrap my hands?

Check out our helpful wrapping tutorial.

Buying a Membership or Class Package

How do I buy a package or membership?

You’ll need to create an account to buy and book classes. After you’re set up, add a credit or debit card, and pick your package or membership option. You can keep your card on file to easily make future purchases online or in-house.

What are my membership options?

You can choose a single drop-in pass or package (classes in bulk––check for availability).

Do classes expire? Can I transfer or share my class package?

All class packages have expiration dates, which you can view at any time by logging into your account. Packages are non-transferable.

Do classes in monthly memberships roll over? Can I transfer or share my membership?

Memberships covering a certain number of visits per month (ex: 8 classes per month) don’t roll over, so be sure to choose one you can commit to. You can check your account at any time to see how many classes you have left for the month or when your classes or series expires. Memberships are non-transferable/non-shareable.

How do I cancel or freeze my membership?

We offer hassle-free cancellations and the ability to freeze due to medical reasons. Please refer to our policies for more information. If you have a recurring monthly membership or contract, check the particular details of your membership regarding cancellation. For help with a cancellation or medical freeze, e-mail info@dontesboxinggym.com.

Booking Your Class

How do I reserve a class?

You can reserve your class through the online schedule, or on the MINDBODY app for an easy booking experience (search Donte’s Boxing Gym and add us to your favorites). You'll need to create an account first before booking.

Do I have to reserve in advance? Can I just walk in?

Sorry, no walk-ins! Due to occupancy restrictions we've significantly limited class sizes. You'll need to reserve online to attend a class.

What if I need to cancel or I miss class?

We hope you don’t have to, but things happen. If you can’t make class, please cancel 10 hours before the class start time. This is so other members on the waitlist or those wanting to attend have enough notice to make class.

Once you’re within 10 hours of class, cancelling your spot is considered a late cancel and you’ll forfeit your class credit; this also applies to free trial classes. If you have an unlimited membership, you'll be charged a $10 late-cancel/no-show fee. This also applies to same-day booking (reserving a class the same day) and cancelling within 10 hours of class.

Not cancelling or not showing up to class (no-show) will also result in forfeiting a class credit or being charged the $10 fee if you have an unlimited membership. Thank you in advance for understanding that we can’t make exceptions to this policy.

Note: If you are sick, become sick, or believe you have come into contact with someone who is, please reach out to info@dontesboxinggym.com to reschedule for another time without penalty! :)

How does the waitlist work?

If you add yourself to a waitlist, we’re assuming you can make it if you're added to the class. After making it off the waitlist, if you cancel your spot within 10 hours of class or do not show up, it will be considered a late cancel and you’ll forfeit your class credit, or be charged the late cancel fee if you have an unlimited membership.

What if I'm late to class?

If you’re running more than 5 minutes late, we ask that you give us a heads up and we’ll do our best to get you into class. First-timers that arrive past the class start time may be asked to reschedule for another day.

For Parents

Which class should we attend for the first visit?

Check out the descriptions of youth classes to see which one interests you most. All classes are open to first-timers but be sure to read the class names and descriptions carefully for age restrictions when booking (ex: if your child is 12, don’t sign them up for Tiny Tots, a class for ages 4-6).

What will my child do in a class?

Before starting they’ll get to meet their coach and fellow classmates. Each session always begins with a dynamic warm-up, and generally consists of learning skills and combinations for the day, drills, and conditioning exercises.

Their coach will have everyone regroup at the end of class to briefly discuss what they learned and answer any questions they may have.

How do I sign up my child for a class?

If it's your child's first visit, you'll want to start with a free trial class. Browse our schedule and choose the First Class Free - Youth option under "Kids & Teens Classes" when checking out. For a smooth check-in process, we recommend adding a credit/debit card to your account ahead of time so you can easily make future purchases (for wraps, water, etc.).

After the free trial, sign into your member account to buy a class package or membership and book their next class. You can reserve classes online or on the MINDBODY app for an easy booking experience (search Donte’s Boxing Gym and add to your favorites).

Should I sign them up using my name or theirs?

Please use your child’s name when signing up so we know who to expect in class. You can enter your info in the parent/guardian contact section.

I have more than one child attending. Do I need to make separate accounts?

For children 13 and up, we recommend creating their own account that is attached to their email or another email address you manage. For children under 13, you can add each of their names to your Family Members under the My Info section in MINDBODY.

My child is mature for his/her age. Can they take the adult class?

No—here’s why. Youth classes are specifically designed to meet the needs of children and adolescents up to 17, and we’re able to work with varying ages and skill levels in one setting. Kids of similar ages often work together, so your child won’t feel out of place even in a mixed-age class.

What do we need to wear or bring?

Mask. Everyone is required to wear a mask at all times. That means before, during, and after classes. Handwraps. You can bring your own or purchase a pair before class. Boxing gloves. For health and safety reasons we've temporarily discontinued glove rental. Water. We also have bottled water and sports drinks for purchase. Optional but helpful items: a face towel and a small bag to hold your belongings

Be sure to wear clothing you can comfortably move in. Clothing worn for P.E. or other fitness activities will work.

Do we have to reserve in advance? Do you allow walk-ins?

Sorry, no walk-ins! Due to occupancy restrictions we've significantly limited class sizes. You'll need to reserve online to attend a class.

If this is your child’s first class, you’ll want to arrive 10-15 minutes early to get settled in. See our page for first-timers.

What if we have to cancel or we miss class?

If you can’t make class, please cancel 10 hours before the class start time.

Can I pay online?

Absolutely. Create an account or log into your existing one. After you’re set up, add a credit or debit card, and choose a class package or membership option. Be sure to select passes under the Kids & Teens category, as those are specifically priced for youth students.

You can keep your card on file to easily make future purchases online or in-house (for water, wraps, apparel etc.).

Are Youth classes shareable or transferable?

Packages and memberships are not shareable or transferable.

How often should he or she attend?

If we’re your child’s main source of physical activity, we recommend attending 3-4 times a week. Kids who play other sports typically take class with us 1-2 times per week and increase their visits during the off-season.

Does my child have to spar?

No. Due to social distancing requirements we're not currently offering sparring in classes or private training sessions.

Do you offer sparring or opportunities to compete for kids?

Due to social distancing requirements we're not currently offering sparring in classes or private training sessions.

Do you offer private lessons for kids?

Yes we do! We offer 30-minute and hour-long lessons for kids starting at age 4, both virtually and in person. Check out our youth pricing for more information.

Can I stay while my child takes a class or a lesson?

You can check your child in, but due to building occupancy restrictions, parents are not able to stay while their child takes a lesson.

What if we’re late to class?

If you’re running late, we’ll do our best to accommodate and get your child into class. However, allowing a student into class after start time is at the discretion of the coach, and first-timers that arrive late may be asked to reschedule for another day.

Our Facility

Can I rent or buy boxing equipment and water?

You can buy hand wraps at the gym but will need to bring your own boxing gloves. Due to health and safety concerns, we've temporarily discontinued glove rental. We have bottled water and sports drinks available for purchase.

Can I observe a class?

We're happy you're interested in how classes at Donte's work, but due to building occupancy restrictions and out of respect for the time and privacy of other members taking class, we don't allow anyone to stay and watch (except for the parents of youth students taking a class). The best way to see if our classes are right for you is by signing up for a class with a single drop-in pass (no comittment). We also recommend checking out our page for First-Timers and breakdown of the Workout.

Where are you located?

We're located just steps from the Shady Grove Metro and King Farm neighborhood. You can find us off of the corner of Redland Road & Rockville Pike (355), in the row of businesses directly behind the 7-Eleven. Parking lot entrace is on the Redland side.

COVID-19 Procedures

How can I workout safely during in-person training?

Here at DBG, we take your health and safety extremely seriously. We've implemented the following procedures since reopening:

  • You will need to register online before coming to class (no walk-ins).
  • Everyone will be required to wear a mask in the gym at all times, including during workouts.
  • Upon entering the gym, a team member will take your temperature using a contactless temperature scanner. Anyone with a temperature reading above 100.4 (CDC recommendation of a fever) or exhibiting visible signs of illness will be asked to reschedule after being seen by a doctor. This is to ensure their own safety and that of others.
  • Upon entering the gym, everyone is required to sanitize their hands with personal or gym-provided hand sanitizer, or by washing their hands.
  • You will need your own hand wraps and gloves to attend classes. We've discontinued the use of shared equipment and glove rental at this time. Wraps will still be available for purchase.
  • Classes are capped at 5 members per class. This is in compliance with Montgomery County's Stage 2 occupancy guidelines (1 person per 200 sq./ft. indoors). You will be assigned your own workout station at least 6 feet apart from others.
  • Members are not permitted to bring guests unless they are also registered and taking a class. Parents can check their child in but are not able to wait in the gym during the class.
  • The gym will be deep cleaned each day prior to opening and after closing. We've also allocated an hour in between each class for further deep cleaning and sanitizing.

I had active class credits when you shutdown. Can I use them?
